The Saints beat the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers 36-27 on Sunday but starting quarterback Jameis Winston suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Coach Sean Payton said on Monday that Winston tore his ACL, but also suffered damage to the MCL.
Trevor Siemian filled in for Winston, but NFL analyst Mike Detillier expects Taysom Hill will be the starting Q-B once he’s cleared to play after suffering a concussion on October 10th.
“I just think Sean feels strongly about Taysom Hill and he’s going to give him the baton and say hey kid go out there and run with it now,” said Detillier.
The Saints also have rookie Ian Book on the roster and could bring in another Q-B. Tomorrow is the NFL trade deadline, but Saints radio color analyst Deuce McAllister doesn’t expect New Orleans to make a trade.
“They will obviously entertain that opportunity, but they are going to feel fairly comfortable with what they have in the building and see how that works out first,” said McAllister on WWL Radio in New Orleans.
Simiem made his first appearance in an NFL game on Sunday since 2019. He started several games for the Broncos in 2016 and 2017.
Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramcyzk sys Simiem played well under tough circumstances.
“There was no sense of nervousness or anything, it looked like he had been there before, he definitely had confidence going into it, I think he did a great job,” said Ramcyzk.
The Saints are back home this Sunday to host the Atlanta Falcons.
