Elections held in parts of the nation were won mostly by Republicans, and that may not bode well for Democrats in next year’s mid-term elections. Pollster John Couvillon with JMC Enterprises of Louisiana reacted to what likely drove the results in favor of GOP candidates.
“You have voters who are discontented with the way that the Biden administration seems to be reacting to economic issues,” said Couvillon.
In one of the most-watched races, Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in Virginia’s governor’s contest, becoming the first Republican to win a statewide office in the commonwealth since 2009.
Couvillon says Democrats should not be feeling good about next year’s mid-terms after last night’s election results that favored in large part GOP candidates.
“When you have the swings that you did in Virginia and New Jersey last night, I think that if you are at or below a Biden average of 55 percent means that you as an incumbent Democrat need to be very worried.”
Couvillon says the outcomes of Tuesday’s elections aren’t likely to impact Louisiana’s major mid-term races.
“Not really, because in Louisiana you’re talking about Senator Kennedy and five incumbent Republican congressmen who are not in any kind of political trouble.
