Today is Giving Tuesday a tradition that began in 2012 and like last year the need is great in Louisiana. Interim Red Cross Communications Director for Louisiana, Caroline Fountain said with two devastating hurricane seasons back-to-back, a donation to the Red Cross is greatly welcomed.
“Every year that we see hurricanes impacting our communities we need to be there, and we are there to give shelter, to give that warm meal, to give that comfort to families that don’t have any other place to go,” said Fountain.
Fountain said the easiest way to donate is to go to RedCross.org/holiday. And it’s a perfect solution if you’re having trouble thinking of a gift to give someone this year.
“You can definitely give on behalf of someone else and just let them know hey you were able to give 10 warm blankets to people through this donation that I made on your behalf,” said Fountain.
And Fountain said your monetary donation goes a long way…
“One-hundred dollars can mean ten warm meals for people, $50 can mean one day in an emergency shelter, every single dollar makes a difference,” said Fountain.
Giving Tuesday is a day to volunteer or donate to your favorite charity.
