Governor John Bel Edwards is calling on all Louisianans to help beautify the state. Tuesday the Governor announced the creation of his Task Force on Statewide Litter Abatement and Beautification. The 26 member committee will make policy recommendations to the Governor by July 1, 2022.
In the meantime, Edwards says there’s no need to wait to begin attacking the state’s litter problem.
“There’s just too much trash, garbage, and debris out there, period,” said Edwards. “And we all have a role to play.”
As part of his executive order, Governor Edwards has also set aside the fourth Saturday of each month as a “Love the Boot. Don’t Pollute” day, to encourage civic and neighborhood organizations to conduct their own events to remove litter from their communities.
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser’s office will work closely with the Task Force. Nungesser stated that litter is more than just a nuisance, it is an economic development issue for the state that negatively impacts Louisiana’s economy.
