State Wildlife & Fisheries’ annual “Get Out and Fish” events start today in select ponds across the state. LDWF spokesperson Danica Williams says 17 sites across the state will be stocked with adult-size Rainbow Trout; a colder water fish uncommon to Louisiana waters.
“It’s perfect for families to get out there, and bring youths out there, to try to catch something that’s unique. They’re good eating,” says Williams.
Rainbow Trout are native to lakes & rivers in western North America. They thrive in cooler waters, and are very good to eat. Williams says agents began stocking the trout before dawn this morning at a number of ponds, and the event continues next week, with agents another round of ponds in Lafayette, Youngsville, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and more. For a complete list of locations, visit “WLF.la.gov” and click on “Get Out and Fish!” Williams says this is a great time of year to cast a line for some tasty trout…:
“It’s cold outside. The water temperatures are perfect, and so they will be in the water starting Thursday. Hopefully all the folks that have been calling have noticed the news releases and know that they are coming, and will be out there ready to go.”
You must have a valid Louisiana fishing license, if over 16. again, for info: wlf.la.gov.
