The state issues revised COVID guidance for K-12 schools to keep disruptions to a minimum. State epidemiologist Teresa Sokol said if you are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID in the last 90 days you are exempted from having to quarantine after being exposed.
“But these individuals do need to mask for 10 days and ideally, they would test at day five just to be on the safe side,” said Sokol.
Sokol said the second option is the “test to stay” which requires those who are unvaccinated to be tested for COVID twice a day for five days after exposure.
“And then they need to mask for the full 10 days after they’ve returned. Please note that this option still requires contact tracing on the part of the school,” said Sokol.
The third option is what Sokol referred to as universal masking. It requires no contact tracing or quarantine after exposure regardless of vaccination status.
“Offering this option where the universal masking is in place, it’s going to add an additional layer of protection,” said Sokol.
LDH is offering the three options for K-12 schools and daycares because full adherence to CDC guidelines presents operation challenges.
