A Cut Off man has been arrested by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office accused of stealing thousands from a youth baseball league. 40-year-old Blaine Curole was the president of the league from 2015 until 2017. Lt. Brennan Matherne says when Curole turned over financial records to the league’s boards when leaving, there were discrepancies on much of the spending.
“They had found somewhere between the neighborhood of $16,000 and $20,000 in debit card charges that were charged at area stores, restaurants, gas stations, which ultimately the board felt was not the intended use,” said Matherne.
The board met with Curole in January 2018 to disclose their findings. Curole admitted to using the funds for personal use and requested additional time to pay the money back, but that didn’t happen. Matherne says in addition to the board’s findings, investigators found even more discrepancies.
“We for around $40,000 in discrepancies. We had hoped that Curole would come in with receipts to validate some of the charges possibly being for the league,” said Curole.
Matherne says the investigation continues and more charges could be coming for Curole.
“Curole ended up turning himself in early Monday morning, April 1. He was charged with one count of felony theft and he did post bail of $10,000,” said Matherne.
