Shreveport Police have charged 18-year-old Shamichael Pearson with second-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 17-year-old Huntington High Student Devin Meyers. Sgt. Angie Willhite says investigators talked with witnesses and obtained surveillance footage quickly after the Thursday shooting.
“But they were able to secure a warrant for Shamichael Pearson, he was taken into custody at his residence over on Lakeshore Drive, and he was charged with one count of second-degree murder, bond set at $350,000,” said Willhite.
She says executed a search warrant on Pearson’s home and located the gun they believed was used to shoot Meyers at least five times in his back in front of his house.
As for a motive, Willhite said investigators say the two had an ongoing dispute.
“Mr. Pearson and Mr. Myers crossed paths yesterday and Pearson produced a weapon and Myers tried to flee from him and subsequently, detectives believe Pearson shot him as he was fleeing,” said Willhite.
Willhite credits the public and their assistance in helping them to make a quick arrest.
“Every homicide in the City of Shreveport is a tragedy. Our youth being taken from us is just almost unspeakable,” said Willhite.
Pearson is known as a star athlete at Huntington and a starter for the boys’ basketball team, which is in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
