A report shows one in five Louisiana shoppers have either had their groceries delivered or did curb side pickup through online ordering with a local grocery store. Offers.com editor Kristen McGrath says most services come with a fee and a one to two hour wait time, but it definitely has its perks.
“It can be a huge time saver, especially for busy families, maybe people who like to plan out their meals a little in advance and can arrange for a delivery.”
The survey showed the top concern about online ordering was that folks can’t inspect the produce, and that it might be spoiled.
Curbside pickup is most popular in the southeast, but has low participation rates in California and the north east. McGrath says the service caught up in our area because it was started by Walmart, and unlike densely packed urban centers, we’ve got space to spare.
“It requires that the customers have a car that the customers can go and take to the store and have loaded with their groceries, and it requires a big enough parking lot where the retailer can dedicate a certain number of spots for grocery pickups.”
40 percent of those who chose curbside pickup chose Walmart, followed by local chains.
Of the 20 percent of the general population who do use it, about 42 percent of those place more than one order a month on the service, but McGrath says the most common use is for special occasions.
“It looks like this is something that people try and they might use in an emergency, or in a pinch, but it is not something that they are really doing regularly for their regular grocery run.”
The average amount spent on an online order is about 110 dollars, which can come with a delivery or pickup fee starting around five dollars.
