The statewide average price for gasoline is up 26-cents from a month ago. According to Gas-Buddy-dot-com the statewide average stands at $2.48 per gallon, which is six cents more than a year. GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan says the price at the pump is rising, because production is down.
“We’ve seen extensive amount of refinery maintenance happening in the first half of the year, even the first quarter of the year as refineries prepare for the summer driving season,” said DeHaan.
DeHaan says oil prices are also rising, up 21-dollars a barrel from Christmas. He says expect gas prices to keep rising for another six weeks.
“I would expect to see relief in June, not sizable relief that we all want, but prices might trickle slightly lower in the month of June as supply begins to increase after refinery season wraps up,” said DeHaan.
DeHaan says if you want to save a few pennies on gasoline, try filling up on Tuesday. He says they’ve found that’s the best day to buy gas.
“The energy markets are closed over the weekend, meaning early in the week, stations have chiseled away at their price, but then as the week progresses and energy markets re-open Monday and through the remainder of the week prices become more volatile,” said DeHaan.
The worst day to buy gasoline is Friday according to GasBuddy’s research.
