An Opelousas man is in jail suspected of stabbing his mother to death. Detectives arrested 28 year old Cody James Arceneaux on Monday after receiving 911 calls from a witness inside the home and from the suspect. Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux said an argument quickly escalated into violence.
“The argument started by her talking about his lifestyle and it quickly got out of control,” said Thibodeaux.
The victim has been identified as Vicky Granger.
Thibodeaux said Arceneaux claims his mother tried grab the knife to stab him, slicing the suspect in the process. He then regained the kitchen knife and began to attack her.
“She pulled it from him, and it cut him a little bit on the bottom of his hand, so he grabbed it back from her. He started stabbing her multiple times anywhere on the body where he could stab her,” said Thibodeaux.
Arceaneaux was transported to a local hospital for treatment, then was taken to jail.
Thibodeaux said by the time deputies arrived, they found the suspect curled up on the floor holding his hands in a bloody towel, but were too late to help the victim.
“She was in the kitchen, not too far from the knife. She had succumbed to the injuries by the time we got there,” said Thibodeaux.
