In an effort to hold the president of the Louisiana Business and Industry group accountable for a promise he made two years ago, Eric Holl with Real Reform Louisiana sent Stephen Waguespack another tiki torch. Holl said in a radio interview Waguespack said tort reform would lower auto insurance rates.
“He promised everybody listening that if one year from that day after the passage of tort reform that if auto insurance rates had not gone down, he would march on the capitol with a tiki torch. He said you have to trust me on this, the rates are going to go down,” said Holl.
Holl said since House Bill 57 passed two years ago, auto insurance rates have actually increased. He said in 2020 rates rose 19% and announced rates for 2022 could increase as much as 15%.
“We were promised 10 to 25% rate reductions, and instead we’ve seen increases. We’re really trying to hold these big corporate groups accountable for some of the liberties they take with the truth when they’re trying to push legislation that’s favorable for them,” said Holl.
Because Waguespack was not amused with the personal delivery of a tiki torch last June 17th, Holl said he opted to have Amazon handle the delivery this year, but Waguespack has yet to deliver on his promise.
“Last year he blamed the courts being shut down because of COVID, as to why we haven’t seen any reductions, yet which is a little ridiculous because the courts were shut down because of COVID when he made that promise,” said Holl.
Efforts to reach Waguespack have gone unanswered.
