Police in Houma say a local woman and her boyfriend are facing first degree murder charges, after officers found the remains of her 2-year-old son in a trash can. Houma Police Chief Dana Coleman says the couple initially said the child was abducted, but evidence collected implicates them.
“Surveillance images were recovered showing Maya Jones and Jermaine Robinson carrying the lifeless body of Ezekiel Harry in a black duffel bag.” says Coleman.
The boy’s body was still in the duffel bag, when found in the trash can. In custody are 28-year-old Maya Jones and 37-year-old Jermaine Robinson. Coleman says they had problems with Jones’ story from the onset and suspected foul play once they saw holes in her story. Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joseph Waitz says its shocks the conscience that this kind of abuse would go on.
“This case has rocked our community. Any time that the life of a very beautiful, innocent child – such as Ezekiel – is taken …”
Waitz says this is potentially a death penalty case…
He says, “I want the entire investigative report, so we can make an educated decision with the families and the input of the families. The wants and desires of the families are very important to me.”
