The Brian Kelly era at LSU starts with a mistake-filled one-point loss to Florida State in the Superdome. A blocked extra point on the final play of the game preserved a 24-23 Seminole victory. It was the second kick blocked by FSU. The Tigers also had two muffed punts, two touchdown passes dropped and the offense was held to just 10 points through three quarters.
“Anytime you have those kinds of situations, you are setting yourself up for a long night and despite all of those things, I stand here in front of you with an opportunity to bring the game into an overtime situation,” said LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly.
It was an insane finish to last night’s LSU game. The Tigers went on a 99-yard touchdown drive in the final minute, only to have the extra point blocked. It was the second kick blocked by the Seminoles’ special teams unit.
“We made an adjustment after the field goal and made a switch in personnel and that didn’t work either, that’s us, we have to do a better job of coaching,” said Kelly.
As expected, Jayden Daniels started at quarterback and went the whole way. He was running for his life for much of the game as the Tigers new offensive line struggled. Daniels threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns and he also rushed for a game-high 114 yards.
Both touchdown passes went to Jaray Jenkins who had 5 catches for 46 yards.
LSU’s defense gave the Tigers a chance. And if you have to give credit to Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis as he played well. Travis was 20 of 32 for 260 yards and two touchdowns.
Jay Ward and Major Burns led the way with eight tackles a piece for the Tigers. But LSU suffered a major injury on its defensive line. Maason Smith went down in the first quarter with a knee injury.
The Tigers will host Southern for the home opener on September 10th at 6 PM.
