Scott Woodward
What a 24 hours for LSU athletics. Speculation started Wednesday morning that Joe Alleva was out as athletics director and that afternoon LSU announced Alleva would transition to a new role. It didn’t take long for the school to find Alleva’s successor. Texas A&M Athletics Director Scott Woodward was announced as LSU’s new AD on Thursday morning.
Woodward has been in charge of Aggies athletics since 2016, but Glen Guilbeau, who covers LSU for the USA Today Network, says the local was itching to get back to his roots in the boot.
“Graduated LSU, he’s worked at LSU, he’s got a lot of family and friends in Baton Rouge and Louisiana,” said Guilbeau
Woodward is leaving one of the richest programs in all of college athletics. Guilbeau says Woodward could bring a new leadership style to Baton Rouge.
“There’s a lot of money at A&M and they get things done quicker than LSU, I think LSU is ready for someone like Scott,” said Guilbeau.
Alleva had a little over one year left on his contract. He will transition into his new role as special assistant to the president for donor relations. Guilbeau says he’s surprised Alleva was able to last at LSU for over 10 years.
“He’s been unpopular for a while and in a lot of circles,” said Guilbeau
