LSU Coach Brian Kelly confirmed Wide Receiver Kayshon Boutte would make his return this Saturday after missing the New Mexico win for the birth of his first child. Kelly has no plans to force the ball to the star wide-out, though, and has faith in the depth of his receiving room.
“Other than moving guys around a little bit I think that’s all you’ll see from a manipulation standpoint. Other than that the offense has got to come to you, and when you get your opportunities you got to make plays because there’s so much depth there,” said Kelly.
Coach Kelly said the movement of the New Mexico defense didn’t give a good indication of the aggressiveness of the LSU offensive line- a trait he believes will be emphasized as the tigers begin SEC play.
“They’re going to have to put their hand in the dirt, they’re going to have to get off the ball, they’re going to have to move people against their will, and I think you’ll see a good indication in the next month of this offensive line really having to get after it,” said Kelly
LSU is gearing up for their first SEC road bout in Auburn this weekend. Kelly says preparation for this week will better emulate game speed due to the similarities of the two teams.
“Last week we didn’t go against each other very much because the defenses don’t match and the offenses certainly didn’t match. This week we’ll go ones versus ones quite a bit this week because there’s so much carryover and we’ll be able to keep the speed up.”
LSU is looking to capitalize on an Auburn team coming off a miracle overtime win over Missouri last weekend. Kick-off on the Plains is at 6 PM.
