Scott Woodward will be introduced as LSU’s athletic director today at noon. Woodward leaves Texas A&M after the Aggies won nine SEC titles over four years under his leadership. Commissioner of Administration and longtime friend of Woodward, Jay Dardenne, says the Baton Rouge native won’t need much of an introduction.
“Louisiana fans and LSU fans in particular are loyal to LSU people and I think that is a major plus of him coming into the program. He doesn’t need to be introduced to people, he knows people here and he is a tiger, he is an LSU graduate.”
Dardenne says he doesn’t suspect lots of coaching changes immediately but the will wade saga may be Woodward’s first test as AD.
“He is obviously going to inherit the basketball situation which is going to be an ongoing issue for a while but it is good to have Woodward at the helm and I think that at least creates a level of stability going into next season.”
Woodward and Ed Orgeron are the first all Louisiana AD-football coach tandem since 1955. Dardenne says having local Louisianan’s running the show in athletics could bring a bright future.
“It is great to see Ed O[rgeron] here with the football program and Scott now as the athletic director having two Louisiana boys running the program. I think is going to be a real plus for folks as they look at the future of this program.”
