Thirty-percent of small business owners nationwide say inflation is their single most important problem. NFIB State Director Dawn McVea says the federal government said the record-high inflation would only be temporary, but it’s stuck around for the whole year.
“Can I raise prices and they’ve done that, now can I raise wages I’ve done that. Okay now how do I make all of those things work and get people into my business ,” said McVea.
McVea says the national survey also found that 46% of owners reported job openings that were hard to fill and 32% report supply chain disruptions have had a significant impact on their business. She says it’s a battle for survival.
“Small business owners at this point are just happy to keep the doors open and the lights on and keep doing what they love,” said McVea
McVea says state government is reporting a surplus, while many private businesses are struggling to survive. She’s hopeful some tax changes can occur in next year’s legislative session.
“The Louisiana House and Ways Committee will be looking at some things over this interim to talk about our tax structure and ways to make it more business friendly,” said McVea.
