Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin (R) will not seek re-election.
Election day is near and Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is reminding everyone about important information needed to make the voting process trouble free. Polls will be open Tuesday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Ardoin says voters should utilize Geauxvote.com.
“Or to our Geaux Vote app and you can download the simple ballot and bring it with you into the polling location, it gives you a map and driving instructions to get to your polling location,” said Ardoin.
Ardoin says 372,000 ballots are already accounted for that includes in person early voting and absentee ballots. He says a majority of voting still takes place on Election Day.
“We found a 42-43% turnout given the amount of folks that voted and by absentee we think that’s around the number i certainly hope it’ll be higher. This is one of the longest voting days in the United States,” said Ardoin.
He says a 42-percent voter turnout would be typical for a midterm election in Louisiana.
Election security has become a big topic. Ardoin says Louisiana ranked sixth in a recent report for election integrity.
“We work with our local and federal partners to make sure the environment is secure and safe, we have also mitigated issues with machines as appropriate, and of course we are always in control of our election machines,” said Ardoin.
Voters will receive an “I voted” sticker that’s a watercolor painting of the state capitol. Election day results can be viewed in real time via GeauxVote Mobile or at www.sos.la.gov. For more information contact the Election Division at 800.883.2805 or elections@sos.la.gov.
