No major surprises on election night in Louisiana as U-S Senator John Kennedy won re-election to a second term without the need for a run-off. Twelve people signed up to challenge Kennedy, but he still received about 65 percent of the vote. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says his Democratic challengers lacked funding.
“The national money didn’t come to Louisiana why, because there was no chance that Democrats were going even challenge Kennedy with a decent race,” said Pinsonat.
Congressman Clay Higgins faced some opposition to his bid for a fourth term. Fellow Republican Holden Hoggatt received the endorsement of two former Congressmen and U-S Senator John Breaux. But Pinsonat says rural voters in southwest Louisiana back the former law enforcement officer.
“He rolls up against any Republican or Democrat that runs against him, because the rural areas are solid Clay Higgins, no matter what they do in Lafayette and Lake Charles,” said Pinsonat.
In Louisiana’s other four House races, the incumbents won easily. District Four Congressman Mike Johnson didn’t need an election as he no one qualified to run against him.
