Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins has been ousted after just one term. Perkins did not make the runoff election. LSU-Shreveport Political science professor Jeff Sadow says Perkins committed misstep after misstep.
“Within a year you knew that he was going to have problems unless he changed course and he never really did. It’s almost like he had this disinterest in the job,” Sadow said
Republican Tom Arceneaux and Democrat state senator Greg Tarver will face each other in the December 10th runoff election.
Sadow says it will be an uphill battle for Arceneaux
“Republicans have not fared well in recent years in Shreveport mayoral elections. The most that any candidate has gotten in the last four, now I guess was about 33 percent of the vote,” Sadow said.
Arceneaux received 28 percent of the vote in the primary, while Tarver got 24 percent.
“Tarver is the favorite. The demographics favor him. The city has a majority black population, therefore giving Democrats as a whole a tremendous boost,” Sadow said.
