Investigators are looking into an officer-involved shooting in front of Caesar’s Superdome at around 7 this morning. Deputy NOPD Superintendent Chris Goodly says three officers were called to assist a Superdome security team when a person drew his knife.
“Our officer that had responded to the scene had discharged his weapon, striking the individual in his arm and the upper extremity of his body,” Goodly said.
Goodly said the person shot is in stable condition. He said the investigation is being led by federal officials and NOPD Public Integrity bureau. He said the officer who fired the shots joined the NOPD in 2020.
“ He is currently being administratively reassigned as part of normal protocol during this process,” Goodly said.
He added he doesn’t yet know if the suspect made threats, but the Superdome security team asked for NOPD help.
“The Caesar’s Superdome has their own public safety team but when things get a little bit where they need further assistance they do call us from time to time,” Goodly said.
Goodly said the officer who fired was wearing a body cam.
