Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of nursing has been named the Nursing School of the Year by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation.
Ann Carruth is dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
“Our graduates are sought after. All of our students have jobs within a few months of graduation,” Carruth said.
This is the fifth year the school has won the award. The competition is evaluated by a panel of out-of-state judges. She says the school has very high passage rates on key nursing skills exams plus innovative teaching programs. They also do their clinical work all over southeastern Louisiana.
“They also get to be exposed to a lot of a lot of different experiences not just in a hospital setting but in a community setting as well,” Carruth added.
She said they have VIP programs to train veterans as nurses and a telehealth program funded by the US Department of Labor to help improve healthcare access in rural communities.
“And just learn more about population health than what they’re trained in the hospital to do,” Carruth said.
