Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain says your Thanksgiving is expected to cost about 14 percent more this year.
“The price of ham is up 11.2 percent. The stuffing mix is up 16.5. The cost of whole turkeys is up 16.7 percent,” Strain said.
Strain said prices of everything from flour to canned corn to butter and cranberry sauce are higher. He says this year the supply of turkeys is also smaller.
“We’ve seen smaller turkeys, 9 or 10 11-pound turkeys, and the big ones, 22, 23-pound turkeys, might be a little more difficult to find that medium range,” the commissioner said.
Strain says the turkey supply was badly hit by an outbreak of Avian Flu.
“Also secondly the continued issue with labor and also the cost disruptions that we have seen because of what’s happening in the economy,” Strain added.
