The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the Bayou State today is $2.84. That’s quite a drop compared to this time six months when the state recorded its highest average at $4.56 a gallon. Triple A spokesperson Nick Chabbari said today’s average is down about 45 cents from a month ago.
“And of course, we’re now cheaper than where we were this time last year so, prices are headed in the right direction after drivers dealt with roller-coaster prices earlier this year,” said Chabbari.
Chabarri credits market stability for the continued drop in prices at the pump.
“Really what’s largely driving the decrease that we’ve seen over the last two months or so now, has been stabilized and lower crude oil prices,” said Chabbari.
He said the Russian invasion of Ukraine was largely responsible for the disruption in the global oil supply, especially during the summer months, but that appears to have stabilized.
Barring any major disruptions in the market, Chabarri believes we will continue to see gas prices drop.
“Certainly, don’t expect to get prices to get to where they were in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. Of course, we know that was largely driven by a sharp decline in gasoline demand,” said Chabarri.
