The National Weather Service says the coldest weather of the season so far is expected in Louisiana by late in the day Thursday, bringing temperatures as low as ten degrees north of I-20 Friday morning. Forecaster Brandon Thorne says strong northwesterly winds, with gusts up to 30-40 mph, will accompany the front.
“And that’s going to bring our wind chill to subzero possibly below zero and that’s going to be possible for Thursday night, Friday, into Friday night and even Saturday,” Thorne said
Thorne expects the southern part of the state will experience a hard freeze wind chill effects in single digits. He says minor snow accumulations can not be ruled out Thursday afternoon or Thursday night for north Louisiana.
“It looks like it’s going to be on the lower side of precipitation so we aren’t expecting too much in the way of wintery precipitations as far as like high accumulations,” Thorne said, and added it’s time to begin preparing.
“The biggest things we want to protect are our pets, making sure that our pets have somewhere to go, somewhere warm, and we want to protect our pipes, make sure that all our piping outside is good to go, ready for the cold weather, and check on people who might be without heat to make sure they are safe,” he added.
