LSU is holding its first Giving Day on Tuesday. It’s a 24-hour fundraiser that starts at midnight. LSU Foundation spokesperson Sara Whittaker said April 30th is the anniversary of the dedication of the flagship campus in Baton Rouge in 1926 and the donation goal has significance as well.
“LSU was founded in 1860, and we know how strong Tiger pride is, so we thought a goal of 1,860 donors of any amount was the right fit for our first Giving Day,” said Whittaker.
LSU Giving Day is part of the university’s $1.5 billion dollar Fierce for the Future Campaign, which is the largest campaign for higher education in the history of Louisiana.
Whittaker said there are many matching challenges for students and alumnus.
“Donors will choose the areas that are most interesting to them. And there are several matching gift opportunities where if a donor gives, say $10, and they are the 100th donor, another donor may match that,” said Whittaker.
Whittaker said she expects the Tiger community around the world will help smash the goal of 1860 donations, and when they do, it’ll unlock a big money match.
“Once we hit that 1860 donor mark, that will unlock a $10,000 match,” said Whittaker.
