Senator Bill Cassidy (R) - Louisiana
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says his priorities in 2023 will include working in a divided Congress on issues that can receive bi-partisan support. He says fixing Social Security is one such issue.
“No, you’ve got to strengthen the program, and if you’re going to have a program you don’t open it up and say, by gosh we’re cutting benefits,” he said.
Cassidy said he will continue his efforts to make the National Flood Insurance Program more affordable.
“We would do things like cap the rate of increase in the flood insurance program,” Cassidy said.
He also wants to provide assistance for lower-income purchasers of flood insurance.
“Assistance so that if they could not afford the premiums they would get some help in doing that,” he said.
Cassidy added he will redouble his efforts to get more money for coastal protection. The RISE act could have brought nearly $2 billion to Louisiana over ten years.
