There’s a $50,000 Powerball prize that’s yet to be claimed and the ticket was sold in Ascension Parish for the July 30th drawing. Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Kim Chopin said ticket holders have 180 days to claim a draw-style game prize and for this ticket, the deadline is January 26th.
“It was purchased at the Fisherman’s One Stop on Highway 22 in Saint Amant. So, if you visit there and buy your Powerball tickets there, please go check your tickets because there’s $50,000 waiting on you,” said Chopin.
If the prize isn’t claimed Chopin said per Louisiana law the money goes back to the lottery and is used for promotions or towards payouts for scratch-off games. But Chopin said they’d rather have the winner come forward and collect their $50,000 prize.
“We’ve had some success stories in the past when the media’s gotten involved in getting the word out. One guy had a significant prize and ticket that was actually under his bed,” said Chopin.
The winning ticket matched four of the five numbers drawn and the red Powerball number to win. Chopin said they’ve had ticket holders claim prizes at the last minute before and they’re hoping this story will bring forward another one.
“I had this stack of tickets I forgot to check it, then I heard on the radio there was a big unclaimed prize in my area, so I went and looked. So, it’s good to get the word out,” said Chopin.
The winning numbers for the July 30th drawing were 04-17-57-58-68 and the Powerball number was 12.
You can also download the Louisiana Lottery app on your phone to scan draw tickets and scratch-offs to see if they are winners. Winners of large prizes will need to contact a lottery office to claim their prize.
