Lafourche Parish Sheriff Deputies arrest 30-year-old Shane Chelette who allegedly forced himself onto a Lockport woman. The two met through the dating app Tinder and agreed to dinner.
Captain Brennan Matherne, says things eventually took a turn for the worst.
“Chelette ultimately went to her residence and begin making unwanted sexual advances. The women repeatedly told him to stop and then eventually he committed sexual battery and oral sexual battery on the women before eventually leaving the residence,” said Matherne.
Detectives issued a warrant for Chelette’s arrest. He was located on Friday and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux.
Matherne says he faces several charges.
“Based on the investigation of the incident itself and the report from the victim ultimately Shane Chelette was charged with sexual battery, forcible fondling, and oral sexual battery in this case,” Matherne.
Deputies warn individuals using dating apps to become more aware of its dangers by doing a search for their potential date on Google or social media before meeting in person. Matherne says it’s also best to meet in a public place with a cell phone.
“Bring your own transportation in case anything is off you can leave, and leave that person’s name with a family member or a trusted friend, let them know where you’re going and what time to expect you, and never share intimate photos electronically, especially with someone you’ve never met,” said Chelette.
