AAA is reporting over 1/3 of the nation’s population is expected to be on the move with the winter holiday travel plans. AAA spokesperson Don Redman said this year’s estimations are record-setting, saying for as long as AAA has looked at holiday travel numbers, they’ve never seen anything like this.
“Over 112 million people will be traveling for the holidays, on the roadways, in the airways, on cruise boats, trains, buses, I mean it’s truly one for the record books,” said Redman.
Redman said it’s important that travelers practice patience and give themselves a little extra time to get where they need to go as there has been a notable jump in travelers compared to last year.
“We are talking about a 4 percent increase in people traveling this holiday versus last year. It’s a big number of people,” said Redman.
Redman said travelers can expect gas prices with most of the Gulf Coast states to be relatively low.
“Prices at or just below $2 per gallon. This is certainly welcomed news. Now if you are traveling to Florida, they are historically twenty to forty cents higher than Louisiana,” said Redman.
