In St. Martin Parish a single-vehicle crash killed two Breaux Bridge residents. Trooper Thomas Gossen said that shortly after 1 p.m. they were notified of the crash on State Highway 328 Sunday. He said the driver 41-year-old Christopher Thibodeaux and his 16-year-old nephew Carter Potts were both killed.
“The vehicle went off the roadway to the left and struck a ditch. Once it struck the ditch it continued on and it went into a field where it started to overturn,” said Gossen.
Gossen said Thibodeaux not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Carter however was restrained. Gossen said it’s unknown whether Thibodeaux being unrestrained caused injury to Carter.
“Or just the crash itself, and that’s the scary part and I think that’s the takeaway we want here is that you as an unrestrained person in a vehicle could cause damage to someone who is restrained,” said Gossen.
A toxicology sample was taken from the driver and the crash remains under investigation.
