College basketball player Antoine Davis says he feels cheated for not having an opportunity to break Pete Maravich’s NCAA scoring record. Davis ended up four points short and the C-B-I did not add his school, Detroit Mercy, to its tournament so he can pass Pistol Pete. Maravich’s eldest son, Jaeson, is glad.
“The CBI says they got flooded with emails and calls saying it wasn’t right and they shouldn’t invite them,” said Jaeson Maravich. “I couldn’t be more proud of all of the fans and stuff and it’s crazy because his NBA career ended in the 1980s.”
Many felt it was right to exclude Detroit Mercy from the CBI, because they had a losing record at 14-19. Jaeson Maravich says it blows his mind that Davis would say he’s upset that he was not given one more game to break the record.
“He had all of the time in the world to break it and couldn’t do it, he had 61 more games than my Dad, and it never happened, he’s talking about how he feels cheated, I think it’s a terrible look, I really do,” said Maravich.
Maravich scored 3,667 points during three varsity seasons at LSU. Jaeson Maravich points out that Davis had five years to break the record, because he got an extra year as a result of the COVID pandemic.
“When my Dad played, they didn’t have conference tournaments, they didn’t even play as many games during the year, he’s had all of the advantages, he’s had a three-point line, he’s had a shot clock,” said Maravich.
