Kim Mulkey and the LSU Lady Tigers are national champions of women’s basketball. LSU scored a championship game record 102 points in a 102-85 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. Five players scored in double figures led by Jasmine Carson who had 22 points. Alexis Morris had 21 points, LaDazhia Williams had 20 points, and Angel Reese had 15 points and ten rebounds.
Carson stepped up in the first half as Reese was on the bench for the second quarter with foul trouble. She hit seven-three pointers, including a remarkable three-point shot off the glass at the buzzer to end the second quarter.
Iowa came out strong in the second half, but then it was Morris who stepped up in the second half. She scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half. Morris also had to guard Caitlin Clark, the National Player of the Year. Clark had 20 points on 9-of-22 from the field.
This is the 50th national championship in school history.
