The state has been hit with another tornado outbreak. Meteorologist Brandi Richardson says the National Weather Service Shreveport office has deployed tornado survey teams to Natchitoches, Caddo, and northern DeSoto Parishes.
“We’re going to get as much done as we can today before the heavy rain moves back in and if we can’t get all of it done today before the rain, then we will have to wait until early next week,” said Richardson.
Richardson says in addition to tornado damage, there have been various road closures as flash flooding is a big concern.
“Right now, our rivers and our creeks are really full from all the rain that has fallen, so there’s residual hydrologic flooding and that’s going to continue because everything is so full,” said Richardson.
Rep. Jack McFarland says in Jackson Parish residents are dealing with the aftermath of what appears to be two different tornados.
“One in northern Jackson Parish in the Hodge area. The other in in the Jimmy Davis State Park area. We’ve got a lot of homes with trees on the home,” said McFarland.
Some roads are impassable due to fallen trees. McFarland says about 20,000 residents were without power after storms passed through last night.
“During the night, they got a lot of that up and going and then unfortunately we had another band of storms come through this morning and we’re back to around 13,000 to 15,000 without power again.
No serious injuries have been reported. Governor Edwards is scheduled to speak at the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office at 3PM.
