Gubernatorial candidates are already taking to the airwaves. Treasurer John Schroder and AG Jeff Landry have TV ads running and this week ads from the political action committee known as Reboot Louisiana, supporting Stephen Waguespack begin today.
“These candidates and the groups that are supporting them are very eager to get on TV,” La-Politics.com Publisher, Jeremy Alford said.
And in the next four weeks, Alford said you can expect to see ads for Independent Hunter Lundy begin. Alford said the Lafayette attorney has the support from two groups you wouldn’t necessarily see paired together.
“He is largely self-funded, but he has a very impressive base of support among Pentecostals and trial lawyers. Which is a unique pairing, but he seems to be pulling it off,” said Alford.
Alford said Landry, who leads the pack as far as campaign funding goes, even has tailored ads running. He said will several Republicans in the race, their supporters are eager to have ads airing sooner than later to build name recognition.
“John Schroder, Stephen Waguespack, the other Republicans in the field, really have to spend a lot of money, resources, and energy to build up their name recognition if they want to take on Jeff Landry,” said Alford.
As for the lone Democrat, and former Transportation Secretary, Shawn Wilson, Alford said it’s not as critical to have ads running at this point and he believes Wilson will make the runoff due to his strong base. Qualifying is in August and the primary is on October 14th.
