President Donald Trump told the 7,000 workers at the 10-billion dollar Sempra Energy LNG facility in Cameron Parish that they are helping to make America the energy superpower of the world.
“You are not only making our nation wealthier, but you are making America safer by building a future of American energy independence, we are independent, we don’t need anybody,” said Trump.
The President says once the Cameron LNG facility is fully operational it will export up to 15-million tons of liquefied natural gas every year. Mr. Trump took credit for helping this energy facility and others become a reality.
“Because under my administration we have ended the war on American energy and we’ve ended the economic assault on wonderful energy worker and you were under assault,” said Trump.
Before leaving Cameron Parish, the president promised a major infrastructure upgrade in southwest Louisiana if he’s re-elected.
“We’re giving you a brand new I-10 bridge and we are going to start work on it right away, because I think we are going to win, so we want to be prepared,” said Trump.
The visit featured a scary moment before the speech began that landed three officers in the hospital. Two Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies and one Sulphur Police Department officer wrecked, while their motorcycles were escorting the presidential motorcade on I-210.
Authorities say two of the officers suffered mild to moderate injuries, and the other has serious injuries, but is currently in stable condition. The crash is still under investigation.
