The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will host a public meeting at 5 pm tonight to discuss the widening of the I-20 project in Monroe. D-O-T-D Spokesperson Erin Buchannen says the purpose is to provide information about the improvements and get input from interested parties.
“It’s an opportunity for stakeholders to come and ask questions and get information. All of that related to the project and so we’ll take all of that we receive and move forward with the project development.”
The proposed project will add an additional lane in both directions of I-20 from US 165 to the east of Garrett Road in Monroe. Buchannen says the project is still in its early stages…
“So if we hear concerns are we looking at various ways to design the project and need if we need to make adjustments, that’s what will happen. So we haven’t reached the point of designing the project yet but we are moving toward that.”
Funding for the project has been secured through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, a federal stimulus package passed by Congress in March. Buchannen says the goal is to get the community involved in the development process.
“We don’t want to get to the phase of design of construction and not have had as much public input as possible. So you can come and go at any time and speak with DOTD and representatives of the project team.”
The meeting will be held at the Monroe Public Safety Center located at 1810 Martin Luther King Junior Drive.
