
A new law that makes it illegal to create and distribute deepfakes depicting someone engaging in pornographic acts without their consent, especially minors went into effect Tuesday. Senator Jeremy Stine says this type of material is used for revenge porn or fraud and causes harm to the victims involved…
“On say pornography, they’re simply taking a picture and putting a video that depicts and looks like it’s actually that person that you just took a snippet of the profile picture of.”
Louisiana has become one of the first states to pass legislation explicitly criminalizing the creation of deep fake child sexual abuse material. Violators will face stiff penalties. Stine says when a violation involves a child…
“The defendant must serve at least ten years of the sentence imposed without benefit of probation or parole or suspension of sentence cause we again are very serious about protecting children in Louisiana.”
Stine says perpetrators could also be fined no less than ten thousand dollars. He says this is a safeguard against potential abuse of technology…
“This is going to provide the necessary tools to go after people. If you’re depicting minors, it’s a more serious penalty but also even adults. We’re not going to tolerate that here in Louisiana.”
