Wildfires in Sabine Parish have destroyed at least 14 structures, and nineteen vehicles and damaged hundreds of acres east of Florien. State Fire Marshal’s Office spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue said they’ve been assisting local fire departments. She said the fire is contained but still active and crews are keeping an eye on the fire lines surrounding the blaze.
“And ready to extinguish very quickly any breaches that may occur, whether wind drives it, or an ember jumps the line, they are ready and watching to keep that fire contained,” said Rodrigue.
Rodrigue said they are assisting local fire departments with assessments of their needs and helping them obtain them.
“This is a very active situation, and very much ongoing. So, we are asking the public to avoid the area and to continue supporting your first responders,” said Rodrigue.
Rodrigue said donations of water, food and other resources for fire crews are extremely appreciated and she urges residents to understand that there is a statewide burn ban in effect. She said the excessive heat adds another level of danger for firemen.
“What we really, really need is for the community to stop burning, we need your common sense, we need your cooperation. We need your consideration for your neighbors and for your first responders,” said Rodrigue.
If you need assistance from the wildfires or would like to make a donation you can find up-to-date information at the Village of Florien’s Facebook page or click here.
