The town of Merryville and the Junction areas are under a mandatory evacuation as a result of the ongoing Tiger Island wildfire. Beauregard Parish Sheriff spokesperson Shannon Burgess says that the fire was mostly contained, but that has hanged.
“We’ve lost a little bit of containment since Thursday. It was at 85%, they are now saying it’s at 50%,” said Burgess.
The fire came extremely close to the small town of Merryville, but a wind change pushed it a way
“It got about 3,500 feet close to Merryville, and the wind shifted and turned it more in the northern direction, but now it puts the southern Junction community in jeopardy,” Burgess said.
It was previously reported that the only structures that were burned were a few deer stands and camps, but Burgess says that has now changed.
“When the fire shifted last night, there were three structures that were burned, but we still remain at zero for injuries and loss of life,” said Burgess.
