Another evacuation order has been issued in Beauregard Parish after firefighters lost containment of the Tiger Island Fire due to wind and dry conditions. Beauregard Parish Sheriff Spokesperson Shannon Burgess says approximately 200 acres burned where the fire breached and crossed the highway.
“It escalated kind of quickly and it allowed it to cross Highway 110 to the south side of it near Singer which put an area where there are residents and businesses in danger.”
Air tankers are being used to drop water on the flames located south of La. 110 between Singer and Merryville. Four scooper planes and dozers from the Hwy 113, Elizabeth and Lions Road fires are also en route to assist. Burgess says the highway was reclosed out of caution for motorists in the area.
“Highway 110 west between Singer and Merryville is currently reclosed because it’s so smoky and the west side of Highway 27 right there in Singer.”
Engines remain in the area to patrol and observe the fire. Burgess believes a significant chance of danger remains.
“We’re going to keep the public updated as soon as we get ourselves. It’s a very fluid situation. So we just ask everyone to remain vigilant and stay on top of things. We’re going to try to take care of you the best way we can.”
A voluntary evacuation has been ordered for residents on the west side of La. 27 to Juanita.
