While Republican frontrunner Jeff Landry has the support of the state GOP behind him in the governor’s race, he failed to receive an endorsement from the editorial staff of the Times-Picayune and NOLA.com. Landry said if they had endorsed him, it would have come as a shock…
“They have never really been very favorable to me, even through the eight years that I’ve been attorney general. So, you know it really doesn’t come as much of a surprise to me,” said Landry.
Former Louisiana Association of Business and Industry President and Republican Stephen Waguespack did get the nod from the media outlet. He said the endorsement mirrors what he’s hearing on the campaign trail.
“So, I think their endorsement, obviously it’s great to get their seal of approval, but it also reflects what we’re hearing from Louisiana people all across this great state. They’re ready for change. They’re sick and tired of seeing Louisiana lose. They’re sick and tired of seeing other states leave us behind,” said Waguespack.
Despite not receiving the Times Picayune and NOLA.com endorsement Landry said he remains focused on moving the state forward…
“We’re focused on crime; we’re focused on education, and we’re focused on the economy. I don’t know what NOLA.com is focused on, but it doesn’t matter to me I’m focused on the voters,” said Landry.
The endorsement of Waguespack noted his knowledge inside the political ring with LABI and work in Governor Bobby Jindal’s administration, but at the same time said he’s a political outsider. Waguespack agrees…
“Look I understand how things work, I understand how to move the needle, I understand how to solve problems from inside government, but I’ve spent enough time on the outside where I also understand that we need a change agent. We need someone who’s going in to try to change the system not become a creature of the system,” said Waguespack.
We are 22 days away from the October 14th primary and early voting begins Saturday, September 30th.
