Construction along I-10 in Acadia and Lafayette Parish is set to begin Monday. DOTD Spokesperson Deidra Druilhet says the $79 million project will tackle issues on the 37 mile stretch of the interstate.
“There are some sections where we will have to put down some asphalt, pour some concrete as well. We may need to do some patch work and of course putting down what we call “open grade friction course” which is kind of an asphalt overlay.”
The main section of construction will be on the stretch of I-10 from the Jefferson Davis parish line to I-49.
Druilhet says the department has worked to mitigate traffic impacts during the project. While construction work for the most part is scheduled during nighttime hours, Druilhet says motorists will likely endure congestion and alternating lane closures.
“On Friday nights and Saturdays you will be seeing work that will be taking place during the day. So we do encourage people to of course utilize alternate routes but also give themselves a little bit more extra time to get where they need to go.”
Druilhet encourages motorists to be attentive and careful while traveling around construction areas.
“Interstate 10 is already a very heavily traveled thoroughfare. So we ask that people really drive with caution as they go through the work zone and just be on the lookout for the crews we have there.”
The project is estimated to be complete by spring 2025.
