The gubernatorial primary election is Saturday. John Tobler with the Secretary of State says voters can use the GeauxVote app or go to geaux-vote-dot-com to find important information before heading to the polls.
“Polls are open on Saturday from 7 AM to 8 PM,” said Tobler. “Folks can find information on sample ballots or where there polling locations are,” said Tobler.
More than 250 polling locations have moved since the last election. Voters will have to present picture identification which includes a Louisiana driver’s license, state identification, LA Wallet, or military identification card.
Early voting for this gubernatorial primary was down eight percent from 2019, the last time we had a governor’s election. But Tobler says there’s been an increase in absentee ballots, so they expect a normal turnout for this gubernatorial primary.
“Our office still maintains that we are going to have somewhere between a 42 and 46% turnout, 45% is the average for gubernatorial elections,” said Tobler.
Voters are not allowed to wear any items of clothing, stickers, or buttons that campaign for candidates to cast their vote.
Tobler says there’s more than statewide elections on the ballot and voters should make a plan before heading to the polls.
“There are also state representatives, and state senators in addition to four constitutional amendments and local propositions and elections,” said Tobler.
Voters can also visit voterportal.sos.la.gov to find sample ballots and polling locations.
Again, polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.
