University of Louisiana System President Dr. Jim Henderson is set to interview tonight to be the next president at Louisiana Tech. A vote could take place at today’s special meeting of the U-L System board as Henderson is the lone candidate. He says he would be honored to succeed the retiring Les Guice.
“It’s an institution that has enormous potential for not just regional impact but global impact. And the work we’ve done over the last seven years to build this system strengthens that.”
Henderson has been the President of the UL System for the last six years. He previously served as president of his alma mater Northwestern State and chancellor of the Bossier Parish Community College.
Henderson touts the university’s progress in academic excellence, research, and innovative programs.
“It is a comprehensive university and it has continued growth in research, growth in public-private partnerships, as represented in this Tech point two announcement, and just greater impact.”
Louisiana Tech has more than 11 thousand students enrolled.
Henderson says he and his wife spent a day at Tech to meet with the students and faculty last week. He’s optimistic about his future in Ruston.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Ruston is a wonderful community. It’s got a symbiotic relationship with Louisiana Tech. It did nothing but reaffirm my interest in helping an institution become what it can be.”
The public will be allowed to ask questions at today’s meeting in Baton Rouge.
