You can expect to pay five dollars less for a Turkey feast for 10 this year compared to last year. Avery Davidson with the Louisiana Farm Bureau says the national average for a Turkey dinner this year for a family of 10 is around $61.00…
“Less than six dollars twenty cents per person. That’s a four-and-a-half percent decrease from last year’s record high average of $64.05.”
The average cost for dinner for Louisianans is around $59.00 for 10 person meal. He says Louisiana has the second lowest cost for turkey dinner in the country partly because a lot of ingredients are grown locally.
“Especially here in Louisiana, you can find some really good savings when it comes to sweet potatoes because we grow them here. When it comes to pecans because again we grow them here. And if you know a farmer who grows it you can find even better savings.”
Overall prices are still 25 higher this year compared to 2019.
Davidson says sweet potatoes nationally are showing a trend up. As for the turkey itself, Davidson says the price of a 16-pound turkey is around $27 but as for other ingredients…
“Cube stuffing mix is down, frozen pie crusts are down, bout the only place we really saw things go up were for the dinner rolls, for the pumpkin pie mix up about three and a half percent there.”
