The next chapter in Governor John Bel Edwards’ career will be written at the New Orleans law firm of Fishman Haygood. Senior partner Kerry Miller said Edwards, who was an accomplished attorney before his political career, will mesh well with their firm.
“We’re a lot like John Bel in terms of trying to represent the interests of all clients, plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and corporations so he’ll work with us on cases throughout the state,” said Miller.
During his two terms, one of the governor’s environmental goals for the state was to be carbon-neutral by 2050. Miller said Edwards will be able to continue to focus on the economic and environmental benefits of green energy with their firm.
“He’s really championed those projects and new projects and will work on renewable energy economic development projects as a lawyer for the state of Louisiana,” said Miller.
As governor, Edwards announced more than $50 billion in renewable energy projects for the Bayou State. And now with the EPA allowing the state to issue permits for carbon capture projects, Miller said Edwards’ expertise on the subject and legal experience is invaluable in bringing more projects to the state.
“He has studied the details of renewable energy and he really, just sitting with him for an hour talking about it, it’s like going to class on renewable energy he really has that much knowledge,” said Miller.
Miller said Edwards will work out an office in Hammond that will allow him to also spend time with his first grandchild.
