Louisiana Pre-k through 12 education ranked 40th this year in US News and World Report Best States rankings. That is up from 41st in 2023 and jumped up from 46th in 2019. Louisiana State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Cade Brumley said the state is moving in the right direction.
“I think that if we could just hold true to those fundamental elements of education and not chase things that aren’t relative to that, I think we will continue to see our rankings improved.”
Brumley says they are excited about the continued progress but there is room for growth.
“40th isn’t where we need to be and three’s more work to be done,” Brumley said.
The move to 40 marks the state’s highest ranking in the U.S. News and World Report.
Brumley says Louisiana has benefited from the state’s fundamental shift in how students are taught to read, a focus on foundational math skills and an emphasis on career and college readiness.
He hopes next year’s report has Louisiana ranked in the 30s.
