With two weeks remaining in the legislative session, one of the biggest pieces of legislation to be decided is whether lawmakers will hold a Constitutional Convention. The measure was amended in the House to begin in August, as for what it will entail remains a mystery. But first political analyst Bernie Pinsonat said it still must clear the Senate.
“As this closes down a lot of interesting stories unfolded and the big one will be the Constitutional Convention which will fill the rest of the year with politics,” said Pinsonat.
Pinsonat said Landry’s agenda on what will be revised in the constitution has not been made public and procedural matters, like will the proposed changes have to have a two-thirds majority before it’s placed on the ballot for voters to decide.
“We should find out in the next week at the latest how this constitutional convention will work and what will happen,” said Pinsonat.
As for Landry’s first legislative session, Pinsonat said the governor for the most part has gotten his way on legislation he’s supported.
“Overall, the governor’s success right now is pretty impressive, you have to say that he’s had a great five months of legislation of getting most of what he’s wanted,” said Pinsonat.
The session ends June 3rd.
